12/10/11, 4-5 PM
Today, I had my piano lesson again and I improved a lot at the two songs that I were struggling about before. For the first piece, I played it more smoothly and rather confidently since I had been practicing the piece throughout the week. What I need to improve more on this song is my carefulness since I sometimes stumped upon some melodies in the piece because I do not read the melodies and notes carefully. For the second piece, I have improved in the notes-reading and it seems that I played it rather flowing than before. But still, I am still not fluent playing this piece so I need to practice this piece more until the next meeting. I also played some scales in today's lesson. Looking that I am now in Grade 5, the scales are more complicated and I am required to remember about 25 scales. What I am struggling on now are scales that have lots of flats and sharps, making me confused since I need to play the scales in 3 octaves. For the next lesson, I also need to choose a third piece choice for the examination. I was left with two choices of melodies on today's lesson and I need to listen to the CD first and determine which one will I play based on which of the two that is more easy on my ears and skills to be played.

05/10/11, 5-6 PM
Today I had my first piano lesson since my break in September. I am now in Grade 5 ABRSM (Royal) Piano and it is definitely a lot harder to say the least. Today, I continued to play the 2 melodies that I have been practicing for the examination later in March 2012, the first is called "Air, Fourth movement from Partita No. 6 in E minor, BWV 830" by Johann Sebastian Bach and the second is called "Miniature in D Minor, No. 2 from Dix miniatures en forme d'etudes, Op.8" by A. F. Gedike. For the first piece, I have already understood and known the notes thoroughly but need to play it as if it flows and smoothly. For the second piece, I need to grasp and understand the notes more since I have not played it with the confidence that I had while playing the first piece. In conclusion, my goal for the next few lessons is to improve in those areas mentioned.
Journal for the IB CAS
This blog is made to accommodate me in documenting my piano lessons, that I chose to be one of my continuity CAS activities. For the piano lesson itself, I have been taking this since years ago but as Ibu Widy had said this can be one of the activities in the Creativity area, so I decided to use the piano lesson as one of my CAS activities. The lesson will be once a week every Wednesday evening that will last for 1 hour. So the purpose of making this blog is to document and write about what I learn, the progress I made and the goal I need to achieve every single lesson.
